About Shallotte Town Center Redevelopment

The Town of Shallotte is committed to enhancing its Central Business District as the economic, civic and cultural core of the community while activating the beautiful Shallotte River. As part of this commitment, the Town of Shallotte has contracted with the UNC School of Government's Development Finance Initiative (DFI) to conceive of and execute on a process to develop a transformative project on 20 acres of prime redevelopment land in the center of Town. CGI worked with TND Partners and DPZ Co-Design to develop an urban plan and infrastructure concepts for the riverfront redevelopment.

Challenges

Integrating and retrofitting existing roads and infrastructure to serve the new development plan.

Solutions

Analyzing and mapping existing systems and their capacities, developing retrofits street sections that utilize existing infrastructure as much as feasible. Developing green infrastructure to address stormwater quality while enhancing the urban design.
